How to fill it in safely
- Do not write passwords into the form — only name the place where they are kept (e.g. a password manager)
- Exception: keep the master password separate and sealed, never in the same document
- Fill it in by hand and add place, date and your signature
- Keep the original somewhere safe and tell one trusted person where it is
- Go through it once a year and update it
Sample wording for your will
“Regarding my digital estate, I refer to my separate schedule ‘Digital estate’ dated [date], which is kept at [place / person]. The wishes recorded there concerning deletion, continuation or memorialisation of my accounts shall be respected.”
The will itself has to be handwritten and signed in full, or drawn up by a notary (§ 2247 BGB). These templates are general information, not legal advice.
